Dear Mr. Rude,

February 17, 2008 at 12:10 am (Gratitude)

To the guy in my 7th grade English class who said I’d never be a writer:

Thank you.

Seriously, thank you. Your rude opinion that I would only ever be a critic, never a writer, has stuck with me through the years. I mean, you said it to the class when miraculously several of the others stated they thought I would be a famous writer some day. Your doubt in my abilities has driven me in ways that empty platitudes never could.

There are a couple of things I would like to point out to you in passing:

1. Obviously, you had no idea how difficult writing entertaining criticism is.

2. I will dedicate my first book to you by name.

So, even though you did not mean anything good by your statement, it only goes to show you that you can’t always get what you want. I took something good away with me: a burning desire to prove you wrong.

Thank you.

Signed,

A Professional Blogger
